Independent Children’s Monitor releases report

Published: January 25, 2020

Oranga Tamariki welcomes the first report of the Independent Children’s Monitor (ICM).

The report focuses on compliance with the National Care Standards Regulations and relates to reports of abuse and neglect of children and young people in care from 1 July 2019 to 30 September 2019.

It acknowledges the focus by Oranga Tamariki on tamariki and rangatahi Māori and the practice improvements in this area.

Since Oranga Tamariki was established, we have worked hard to lift the quality of care for children and young people. A major step was the development of the National Care Standards in July last year.

Independent oversight helps to ensure that children and young people in care get the support they need and deserve.
