In Hurae 2021, the Ministerial Advisory Board was asked to review the provision of care in Oranga Tamariki Care and Protection and Youth Justice Residences.

This review was completed in Oketopa 2021 and makes 9 recommendations. The review found that while there are significant and persistent gaps in the provision of care and treatment, as well as a shortage of placement options, there is evidence of action and commitment to address these matters.
Minister’s response to the Residences Review
Minister for Children Kelvin Davis’ formal response to the Ministerial Advisory Board’s Residences Review accepts all findings and recommendations and sets out the activities currently underway within Oranga Tamariki to achieve them.
