Budget 2017

The 2017 budget has announced $434.1 million in funding over five years, to support vulnerable children and young people.

Minister for Children Anne Tolley said as a result of this year and last year’s Budget the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki’s annual funding will be 18% higher in 2017/18 than two years ago, when it was part of the Ministry of Social Development.

Budget 2017 includes money to meet the increasing number of children and young people in care (including extending the age to 18), additional support for caregivers, to expand Family Start and continue Children’s Teams, to improve accommodation for young people on remand, and enhance feedback and complaints processes.
