Nominations are open for the 2017 William Wallace Awards, which recognise outstanding young people in care and their achievements.

The Awards are open to any young person currently in care, or who has recently come out of care. They’re a chance to recognise the achievements of these young people, many of whom have succeeded in spite of significant challenges and trauma.

As well as formally recognising the young people’s achievements, the awards provide a monetary scholarship to help them pursue tertiary study, vocational training or leadership development. The awards have grown over the years, with a number of corporate sponsors coming on board to offer additional scholarships. There are now around 15-20 awards, each valued up to $4,000.

Caregivers, social workers and community representatives are encouraged to make nominations on behalf of young people. Nominations close on 4 August.
