How we work
We work to ensure that the voices of children and young people, whānau, hapū and iwi, alongside caregivers, Māori organisations and NGO partners, are heard as we co-design a new way of doing things.

New ways of working
Since inception in 2017, Oranga Tamariki has been working to transform the care and protection system and improve outcomes for tamariki Māori and their whānau. Change is happening but there is still a lot to do. Read about our progress.
-
How we keep children safe
Every case is different and complex – but the safety, wellbeing and best interests of the child or young person is the first and most important consideration.
-
Strategic partnerships with Māori
Our strategic partnerships are helping tamariki and rangatahi Māori to thrive in the care and protection of their whānau, hapū and iwi.
-
Outcomes Framework
The Oranga Tamariki Outcomes Framework sets out the main services we provide, how we intend to provide them differently from the past, and how we will know we're making a difference for tamariki and whānau.
-
Working with others
To keep tamariki thriving we need a partnered approach. That's why we're partnering with iwi and Māori organisations, community groups and NGOs to work together towards improving the wellbeing of tamariki Māori.
