Independent Children’s Monitor releases report

Published: August 11, 2020

Oranga Tamariki welcomes the second report of the Independent Children’s Monitor (ICM).

We acknowledge that independent oversight helps to ensure that children and young people in care get the support they need and deserve.

The ICM monitors compliance with the National Care Standards Regulations to make sure organisations that look after tamariki and rangatahi are doing what they need to enable them to reach their potential. The current report focuses on and relates to reports of abuse and neglect of children and young people in care from 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2019. This includes looking at Barnardos, Open Home Foundation and Dingwall Trust as these organisations also have children and young people in their custody.
